Job Description
Being an Engineering Technician Communications and Information Systems (CIS) Specialist means that you are always in the thick of the action working as an Online Network Engineer at the heart of every mission solving complex issues, enabling the secure exchange of mission critical and often Top-Secret information. It is your responsibility to administer and provide specialist communications and IT equipment including classified information and cryptographic material to guarantee Operational Capability is delivered to the Command.
Entry Requirements
- There are no minimum qualification requirements
- You need to be aged between 16-39
- You need to be within the healthy range for Body Mass Index (BMI)
- You must be a British or dual national

Joining Process
If you are interested in becoming an Officer and have checked the eligibility you will then need to start the joining process.
The steps are:
- Register your interest
- Naval Service Recruitment Test (NSRT)
- Interview - to talk about the role suitable for you
- Medical and eye tests
- Pre-Joining Fitness Test (PJFT)
- Interview
- Admiralty Interview Board (AIB)
Career Progression
Phase One of Training - 10 weeks at HMS Raleigh, learning basic military skills
Phase One of Training - Develop your professional skills, learn about our equipment
First Two Years - Consolidate your skills in the maritime environment
First Promotion, leading hands - Take charge of a section, lead and develop a team
Second Promotion, Petty Officer - Oversee vital equipment as a head of a section
Although this job role does not require formal qualifications, we highly recommend that you try to achieve at least a grade 4 (C) in English & Maths. Achieving this minimum grade in these subjects will increase opportunities in the future and help with your career development and prospects.
If you don't achieve the minimum grades, you will be supported to continue to study English and Maths throughout your full-time education or an apprenticeship.
