Civil Engineers are responsible for the planning, designing, and management of large construction projects such as bridges, buildings, tunnels, airports, offshore platforms, power plants, and roads. They use computer modelling software and data from surveys, tests, and maps to create project blueprints that contractors will use during construction.
Engineers also need to consider sustainability, which means taking into account political, environmental, social, and economic systems during construction and manufacturing projects.
There are various routes to become a civil engineer.
You could take a university degree course and whilst studying choose to specialise in a particular area, such as environmental, structural, or coastal or you could take a college course or apprenticeship in construction/engineering.
Salary range £20k (entry level) - £80K (experienced)
