Light green job

Artists use a variety of methods to produce fine art, they will often specialise in one area such as painting or sculpting.  They will work with various materials such as watercolours or oil paints. Sculptors may work in metal, wood, stone or clay. Many artists are trying to incorporate sustainability into their creative process and are using paints and paintbrushes made from natural ingredients.  In addition, many use recycled paper for sketches and paintings.

To become an artist, you will need a high level of skill and talent in your chosen field. You could train by taking a degree in subjects such as art and design, fine art, visual arts, graphic arts or art history.

You could take a Level 4 or 5 higher national diploma in Art and Design.

If you are exceptionally talented you may be able to sell your work without any formal training or qualifications.

Most artist are self-employed so salaries can be variable.
