Augmented Reality (AR) software engineers develop, test and deploy AR applications using programming skills and software development tools, often working in tech and gaming companies, educational and training organisations, design and creative agencies and potentially as self-employed contractors. AR applications enhance real-world views with overlayed computer generated information, through devices like smart glasses, headsets or phones and tablets.   AR can help reduce the requirements for printed reference material and even some travel when applied to job training.

To become an AR software Engineer you’ll likely benefit from a degree in subjects like Computer Science, Software / Hardware Engineering or Technology & Design, though it is possible to get into this role through other programming experience. Common skills for AR development include Java, JavaScript, C++, Python, C# and Unity. It will also be important to demonstrate your interest and flare through maintaining a portfolio of relevant digital work.

Salary range £30,000-£60,000
